This summer I was finally able to bring geocaching to YMCA Camp Widjiwagan, where I have worked for the past 7 summers. On Saturdays, overnight campers have the option of picking an activity to be at from 10:00 to 3:00 (with a break for lunch at 12:15). One of the directors had discussed wanting to potentially do geocaching as an activity and I told him I could make it happen. It didn't happen until red session but alas, geocaching rocked. I put together a 10 stage multi cache for the campers to work their way through in two groups (because we have two Garmin etrex GPS devices). My class could have no more than 16 campers and two additional instructors. Luckily there are photos to showcase how our multi-cache worked.
The first part of the activity the campers learned about compasses and maps, GPS and basics of geocaching. Right before lunch, campers were given a fake cache page with instructions for our multi-cache on site. They went to lunch talking about treasure and going on the hunt. After lunch the campers were divided into two groups and they dug right in!
